Research is directed towards five well defined directions: i) Exploring, understanding and exploiting complexity (spin, charge, ferroelectric, and orbital orderings) and giant responses in functional oxides, and magnetic materials ii) Developing materials and structures for spin manipulations, iii) Fabrication of magnetic nanoparticles and magnetooptic materials for data storage or magneto-photonic components, iv) Exploring the emerging functional properties at the nanoscale i.e., engineered interfaces, and v) Using and developing tools for nanopatterning and nanofabrication of devices to be use as proof-of-concepts and testing.
Our ultimate interest is to employ the basic knowledge on materials and processes we generate, to propose and develop new concepts and materials that could have impact on the society, welfare and industry, mainly in those of the Information technology sector.
